Following up on a blog item comparing precipitation for the water year starting last October 1st across the Corn Belt, here are some details on how dryness continues its exhaustive hold on Nebraska. Information provided by Nebraska state climatologist Al Dutcher.

"NCDC (National Climate Data Center) state weighted precipitation through the end of February was 2.84 inches. (We) Might have added about another 1/2 inch to the state total as much of the state missed the big snow event. The attached file shows the general precipitation that has fallen across Nebraska since 10/1 using cooperative stations reporting in real time. The area in north-central Nebraska contains a snow measurement (2 inches) in the data base which will be corrected in the near future. Notice how small of an area has seen over 4.75 inches."

That's dry for sure. It points out how Nebraska in many respects is still a focal point of drought.
