Pierre Livestock Auction-Fort Pierre,SD Livestock Weighted Average Report for 04/24/2026 - Final Auction This Week Last Reported Last Year ------------------------------------------------------------ Total Receipts: ------------------------------------------------------------ FEEDER CATTLE 7899 8172 6070 Compared to two weeks ago: Steers from 550 lbs to 699 lbs were 5.00 to 10.00 higher, steers from 700 lbs to 749 lbs were steady, steers from 750 lbs to 899 lbs were 5.00 to 7.00 lower with instances of 10.00 lower: Heifer from 600 lbs to 649 lbs were 10.00 to 12.00 lower, heifers from 650 lbs to 699 lbs were generally steady, heifers from 700 lbs to 749 lbs were 4.00 to 6.00 higher, heifers from 800 lbs to 849 lbs were steady to 3.00 lower. A big run of feeder cattle and replacement heifers for todays auction. Good to very good demand for todays offering that consisted of mostly home raised fall calves, backgrounded feeders and replacement heifers. An active market on all classes with order buyers and farmer feeders competing with internet buyers. Several strings of front end replacement heifers garnered plenty of interest with the winning bidder giving over $4,300 per head for some top notch heifers. Flesh condition ranged from light fleshed hay fed cattle that were running out on pasture to moderate plus coming out of a grow yard. Several strings offered in multiple loads with plenty of part loads and packages available to make loads. Falll calf consignments were full vaccinated and right off the cow. TREND: The trend for July corn is higher for now.

NONCOMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Noncommercial corn traders held a net-long futures position of 383,537 contracts as of May 12 and were net-sellers of 49,847 contracts during the CFTC reporting period as traders booked profits on length amid renewed peace efforts in the Middle East and few issues for U.S. planting thus far.

COMMERCIAL OUTLOOK: Commercial corn traders held a net-short position of 259,956 contracts as of May 12 and were net-buyers of 108,892 contracts through the CFTC reporting period. The July 2026 contract is priced 7 1/2 cents lower than the September 2026 contract, widening (more carry) through the week and to the highest degree of carry between the two contracts...

The livestock complex ended the day mixed, with the cattle contracts able to rally mildly through the day's end, while the lean hog contracts continue to struggle. Still no cash cattle trade has developed.
