Very good demand for a large selection of light, backgrounding type cattle offered today. Many packages, loads, and several strings available, both home raised and backgrounded, and those with grass potential are extremely sought after to fill pastures as supplies of these type of cattle get tighter every week. Good to very good demand for finishing type cattle depending on flesh condition, more flesh overall than seen last week. Many attractive cattle to choose from again this week and quite a few opportunities to buy multiple loads of same weight cattle in a string which buyers took advantage of. An active market overall and a very active market on loads of grass type cattle. The last week has been extremely windy and any moisture received from the previous winter weather has disappeared, these dry conditions remain a huge concern heading into grazing season. Farmers have begun field work. Next feeder cattle sale is Wednesday, April 23. There is no ceiling on cash as packers aggressively purchase cattle. They were short-bought and may remain that way as they may buy only what they need. Hog futures were mixed at the close Thursday as traders seemed uncertain of which way the market would move in the near term.
