DTN Weekly Average DDG Price Lower Again

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- The DTN price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 33 locations reporting for the week ended March 21 was down $4 on average at $185 per ton versus one week ago. DDG prices were mixed but continued lower on average, as some merchandisers mentioned demand was slow right now. The cash corn price was actually higher for the week with DTN National Corn Index up 9 cents Thursday versus one week ago.

The Energy Information Administration on Wednesday reported overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.046 million barrels per day (bpd) in the week ended March 15, up 22,000 bpd week-on-week and 49,000 bpd, or 4.7% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.051 million bpd was 45,000 bpd above the same four weeks in 2023. Midwest ethanol production averaged 995,000 bpd, up 22,000 bpd week-on-week and 41,000 bpd, or 4.1% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.002 million bpd was 42,000 bpd above the same four weeks in 2023.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended March 21 was 1.18%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 53.73 and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $6.85 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $7.25.
