Chicago, NYH Spot Ethanol Prices Spike on Bullish Data
Spot ethanol prices rallied after the Energy Information Administration said U.S. ethanol stocks fell to a three-week low with drawdowns seen in the East and Gulf coasts, locations where ethanol can be exported, while blending demand rose to the highest blending rate since mid-August. The report for the week-ended Dec. 23 showed ethanol stocks declined 400,000 bbl, or 2.0%, to an 18.7 million bbl three-week low.
Prompt delivered ethanol at the Argo terminal in the Chicago market traded at $1.65 per gallon and was then talked at $1.665 to $1.68 per gallon bid/ask for a gain of 5.25 cents. Prompt delivered ethanol traded under Rule 11 changed hands several times at $1.625, $1.63, $1.64 and $1.645 per gallon and was talked last at a $1.645 to $1.66 per gallon bid/ask spread, up 4.5 cents. January ethanol barges in the New York Harbor traded early afternoon at $1.77 per gallon for a gain of 8.0 cents on the session.
