Hot/dry weather in the Southern Plains is causing declining crop ratings for winter wheat in Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska.

Hot, dry weather in the Southern Plains winter wheat belt is having more of an impact on the developing crop. Crop ratings have gone down from last week in the states of Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska. The driest weather in Kansas is in western portions of the state. The outlook calls for only a few light to locally moderate showers during the next seven days along with above to much above normal temperatures. Further declines in crop ratings can be expected next week.

Hot/dry weather across the Delta into the Southeast states has allowed for outstanding harvest weather. However it is also having an impact on planting and development of the soft wheat crop. Many producers have stopped planting until rain develops and may have to replant some of the crop that was already planted. Latest guidance indicates above normal temperatures and mostly dry conditions during the next 7-10 days.

Despite some continued episodes of wet weather, the soybean harvest is nearing completion in the Midwest. The corn harvest trails the normal in most of the western Midwest which it is ahead of normal in the east and nearing completion in Illinois. In the states of Iowa, Minnesota and North Dakota where topsoil moisture is adequate to surplus, some producers may wait for the ground to freeze before finishing the harvest. Current weather patterns indicate they may have to wait a while with above to much-above normal temperatures expected during the next 7-10 days.
