The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) released its Ag Tractor and Combine Report in December for both the U.S. and Canada. The data was fairly positive for the U.S. and negative for Canada. These are sales estimates for November for both tractors and combines.

The U.S. monthly report showed two-wheel-drive tractors under 40 horsepower had a 2% increase from November 2017 to November 2018. The year-to-date (YTD) numbers were also up 9.3%.

Two-wheel-drive tractors over 100 horsepower also had more sold in 2018 from the previous year. Numbers were up 4.4% from November 2018 to November 2017. Year-to-date numbers were up as well, at 5.5%.

The only negative was the sale of two-wheel-drive tractors 40 to 100 horsepower. They were down 7.8% from November 2017. But YTD numbers were actually slightly higher at 1.4%.

Total two-wheel-drive tractor sales estimates were down just slightly at 0.9%, while the year-to-date number actually showed an increase of 6.9%.

Four-wheel-drive tractor numbers were even better. Sale estimates for these tractors were up 60.7% from November 2017 to November 2018. Year-to-date numbers were also up, at 15.9%.

Total farm tractor numbers for November were slightly lower when factoring in both two- and four-wheel-drive tractor sales, down 0.3%. Year-to-date numbers were up 7%.

Combine sales also saw positives numbers in November. Self-propelled combine sales were up 9.2% from November 2017 to November 2018. The YTD was also up at 16.6%.

The AEM data for Canada ag tractor and combine sales were not as positive as the U.S. report. Just about every category had negative numbers.

Total two-wheel-drive tractor sales in Canada were off 8% from November 2017, with tractors from 40 to 100 horsepower down a whopping 18.6% from a year ago. Sales of tractors over 100 horsepower were off 5.9% while tractors under 40 horsepower were down 0.6%.

It didn't get any better for the larger, four-wheel-drive tractor sales estimates in Canada. Sales were down 11.3% from November 2017 to November 2018, while YTD was also negative, down 9.2%.

Total farm tractor numbers in Canada showed a 8.1% decrease from a year ago, while the YTD number was actually positive with a 2% increase.

Canadian combine data was also less than positive. Sales were down 15.8% from a year ago, while YTD numbers were down 7%.
