D6 RINs Spike on Court Ruling Against EPA on RVO

D6 renewable identification numbers spiked 6.0 cents after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit set aside the 2014-2016 renewable volume obligations or RVOs under the Renewable Fuel Standard. The court said the Environmental Protection Agency had wrongly cut RVOs usually satisfied by corn-based ethanol below the statutory level.

In the RINs market, 2017 D6 RINs traded at 86.0 cents, 87.0 cents and 88.0 cents, up 6.0 cents on the session. The 2017 D4 biomass-based diesel RINs traded early at $1.07 before reversing higher, changing hands at $1.08 and $1.10, up 2.0 cents on the session.

In trade for physical supply, spot ethanol prices traded a penny higher in Chicago at $1.5475, $1.55 and $1.5525 gallon, boosted by higher corn futures.
