Spot Ethanol Prices Mixed while RINs Ease

Spot ethanol prices were mixed in thin trade Friday in front of the Christmas holiday, with values flat at the Argo terminal in Chicago and down sharply for January barge delivery at the New York Harbor from December barge values.

Prompt delivered ethanol at Argo traded early at $1.64 and late at $1.675 per gallon. January barges at the New York Harbor traded at $1.6975 per gallon, down 1.0 cent while at an 8.0-cent discount to where December barges traded day prior.

In the compliance market, Renewable Identification Numbers continued lower, with 2016 and 2017 D6 RINs trading at 84.5 cents and 85.0 cents for a 2.0-cent loss on the session and 10.0 cents since Wednesday. D6 RINs dropped 8.0 cents Thursday after the appointment of Carl Icahn as senior advisor on regulatory issues for President-elect Donald Trump. Icahn has sharply criticized the Environment Protection Agency's administration of the Renewable Fuel Standard.
