Spot ethanol prices retreated in the Chicago and New York cash markets Thursday, weighed down by sluggish short-term demand and a drop by Chicago Board of Trade corn futures.

Prompt ethanol supply at Argo in the Chicago cash market was talked at $1.57 to $1.58 per gallon bid/ask for a 0.75-cent loss. Any October Argo deliveries traded at $1.515 per gallon, down 1.5 cents. Chicago ethanol supply traded under Rule 11 for immediate shipment changed hands at $1.55 to $1.565 per gallon bid/ask, down 0.75 cent on the day. October ethanol barges at the New York Harbor traded at $1.635 per gallon, down 2.5 cents on the day.
