DTN Weekly DDG Price Steady on Average
MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- The DTN spot price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 33 locations reporting for the week ended Oct. 2 was $145 per ton on average, unchanged versus one week ago.
DDG prices were mixed but steady on average for the week, while the cash corn price was lower versus last week. Ethanol plant production was lower again, but plant margins remain solid and there is enough DDG supply to meet current demand. The DTN National Average Corn Index was down 3 cents versus one week ago.
Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended Oct. 2 was 0.963%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 51.92% and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $5.37 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $5.88.

U.S. Grains Council, in its weekly distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) export market prices report, showed as of Oct. 2, CIF NOLA barge price was up $6 at $208 metric ton (mt); FOB vessel Gulf price was steady at $227 mt; rail delivered PNW was down $2 at $232; and rail delivered to California was steady at $224 mt. The Mississippi River at Memphis is at -6.07 below zero gauge, and while recent rain helped give the river a bump, the level is expected to go below -8 feet by next Friday. USCG has reinstated barge drafts and tow restrictions on the LMR. The USCG has also reported shoaling in parts of the UMR and mid-Illinois River.
The Energy Information Administration reported on Wednesday that as of Sept. 26, overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 995,000 bpd, down 29,000 bpd versus last week and 20,000 bpd, or 2% lower than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.045 million bpd was 11,000 bpd below the same four weeks last year. Midwest ethanol production averaged 940,000 bpd, down 24,000 bpd versus last week and 21,000 bpd, or 2.2% lower than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 987,000 bpd was 12,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.
