DTN Weekly DDG Price Higher on Average

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- The DTN average price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 33 locations reporting for the week ended July 20 was $201 per ton, up $2 on average from one week ago. DDG prices turned higher on average in part due to the strength in the cash corn price. The DTN National Corn Index is up 42 cents versus one week ago.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) at midweek reported that for the week ended July 14, overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.07 million bpd, up 38,000 bpd week-on-week and 36,000 bpd, or 3.4% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.053 million bpd was 20,000 bpd above the same four weeks in 2022. Midwest ethanol production averaged 1.008 million bpd, up 38,000 bpd week-on-week and 35,000 bpd, or 3.5% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 992,000 bpd was 19,000 bpd above the same four weeks in 2022.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended July 20 was 1.05%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 45.63 and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $7.44 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $9.27.

In its weekly DDGS export update, the U.S. Grains Council said: "Barge CIF NOLA DDGS offers are higher this week with spot demand pushing August quotes up $19/MT while September/October offers are up $12-18/MT. FOB NOLA offers are similarly higher while FOB NOLA offers are higher as well with spot positions up $16 to $278/MT and deferred positions rising $10 from last week's values. U.S. rail rates are higher as well with noted firmness in the spot market (up $17/MT) while offers for 40-foot containers to Southeast Asia are up $12/MT at $320 for August shipment and are up $8-9/MT for September-October positions."
