OMAHA (DTN) -- Of the 40 locations DTN contacted that showed offers for the domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) prices for the week ended April 30, prices posted versus last week were lower. DDG supplies remain tight, but prices have been falling since the beginning of the month as feeders moved on to other more available feed ingredients. There is some speculation in the market that plants may start to come back on line if gasoline demand continues its upward trend, thus adding to a steady uptick in ethanol blending demand, but no timeline has been decided yet.

CIF NOLA DDGS prices are at $176 per ton, down 17.5%, while delivered Chicago price is down 11% from the beginning of April when prices spiked due to plants going off line after gasoline demand fell in to a black hole.

Wednesday's Energy Information Administration ethanol report showed domestic ethanol plant production was down 4.6% to a fresh record low at for the week ended April 24. U.S. ethanol production has fallen every week since the end of February, as operators contend with demand destruction amid government responses in slowing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Domestic plant production is down 47.6% against a year ago, with the four-week average through April 24 down 42.8% against the same time last year.
