U.S. spot ethanol prices were discussed mixed in early trade Thursday on conflicting indicators, as lower inventories weighed against a retreat by corn and gasoline prices.

Trade sources said trades were few-and-far between, with most players sitting on the sidelines. Prompt ethanol at the Argo terminal near Chicago was assessed at $2.57 gallon, down 2 cents on the day, while New York Harbor prompt ethanol was pegged at a $2.70 gallon, up 1 cent on the session.
