OMAHA (DTN) -- The DTN Ag Summit gets underway at 8:30 a.m. CT this morning, and attendees can expect an agenda packed with insights from farmers and industry leaders.

Farm Credit Services of America President and CEO Mark Jensen will set the stage with a big picture look at the agricultural economy. He's expected to put today's geopolitical risk in context as well as discuss how farmers and ranchers can manage risk effectively in today's environment.

He'll be followed by a panel discussing one of the most critical assets on farmers' balance sheets: farmland. The financial discourse continues with an examination of interest rates, their impact on farm budgets and strategies to manage the increased costs.

Then, we'll take a trip inside the Beltway with DTN Ag Policy Editor Chris Clayton and Political Correspondent Jerry Hagstrom. Congress approved a one-year extension of the farm bill, which effectively boots the bill onto lawmakers' agenda in the middle of election season. Clayton and Hagstrom will draw on their decades of experience to explain the implications of that decision, as well as parts of the bill likely to face the most scrutiny.

We'll also introduce you to the next class of America's Best Young Farmers and Ranchers. Each year Progressive Farmer magazine honors five farmers or farming partners doing outstanding things on their operations. This year's class is incredibly diverse in geography, generation and crops/livestock mix. They share the biggest challenges they face as young producers in today's environment and some of the solutions they've found along the way.

We'll finish with a bonus, coffee-shop session, where meeting attendees are invited to turn their cameras on, ask questions and learn from each other.

That's just the first day. On Wednesday, a top-notch panel discusses what technology you can expect on farm equipment in the next few years; DTN Ag Meteorologist John Baranick explains South American weather trends; and DTN Lead Analyst Todd Hultman shares his grain market outlook.
