DTN Weekly DDG Price Slightly Lower on Average

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- The DTN price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 33 locations reporting for the week ended Jan. 9 was down $1 on average versus one week ago at $155 per ton. DDG prices were mixed but slightly lower for the week, as the cash corn price was slightly lower, while soybean meal is still cheaper compared to DDG prices. The DTN National Average Corn Index was down 3 cents versus one week ago.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended Jan. 9 was 0.95%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 53.12 and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $5.74 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $6.14.

U.S. Grains Council in its weekly distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) export market prices report showed as of Jan. 9, January CIF NOLA barge price was at $207 metric ton (mt); FOB vessel Gulf price was at $215 mt; rail delivered PNW was at $238; and rail delivered to California was at $248 mt.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.102 million barrels per day (bpd) in the week ended Jan. 3, down 9,000 bpd week-on-week while 40,000 bpd, or 3.6% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.106 million bpd was 34,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year. Midwest ethanol production averaged 1.043 million bpd last week, down 12,000 bpd week-on-week yet 37,000 bpd, or 3.5% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.047 million bpd was 33,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.

USDA used information released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Tuesday to report U.S. exports of DDGs totaled 946,804 mt in November, down from 1,114,373 mt in October but up 15% from November 2023. Mexico was the top destination in November, taking 22% of U.S. exports and was followed by Vietnam and Turkey. Through November 2024, DDGs exports are up 14% from the prior year.
