Crop Report and Weather Comments
No big surprises with the latest weekly crop reports. In the Midwest, dry weather during the past week in Indiana and Ohio allowed for rapid planting of the corn and soybean crops with both states now running at normal levels. Corn is pretty much all planted elsewhere in the Midwest. Rain did slow soybean planting in Illinois and the western Midwest. Despite this all states are ahead of normal planting progress except Nebraska. Soil moisture is adequate to surplus throughout the Midwest with standing water being reported in some fields in Iowa. Some wheat disease is reported in Indiana and Ohio. The next 7-10 days should feature near to below normal rainfall which will improve conditions for the remaining planting and favor crop development.

Most crops are planted in the Northern Plains. With some recent beneficial rain and more expected later in the week, conditions are quite favorable for developing corn, soybeans and spring wheat.
Adequate to surplus soil moisture in the Southern Plains favors filling wheat. However this wet weather is increasing disease pressure on the maturing crop. The weather pattern during the next seven days will feature warmer temperatures and drier conditions. This will be nearly ideal for the crop as it matures and the early harvest gets underway.
