If you follow our daily livestock commentary, you might have noticed a new byline recently: New DTN Livestock Analyst ShayLe Stewart, from Cody, Wyoming, has joined our analyst team. She will work closely with DTN Lead Analyst Todd Hultman, Analyst Rick Kment and long-time livestock Markets Reporter Linda Nellson to bring you critical market insights in the livestock and meat industries.

We're excited to have her knowledge and passion for the livestock industry available to DTN customers. We know our livestock customers will appreciate that she comes by that knowledge and passion the old-fashioned way: By living it.

Stewart (whose first name is pronounced SHAY-lee) grew up on a cattle and hay operation in south-central Montana. Her desire to stay connected to the industry eventually took her to Colorado State University and to an internship providing market commentary for the U.S. Cattlemen's Association. She quickly developed an online following, which led to the creation of her Cattle Market News Facebook page and web presence. That's where DTN caught her weekly market commentary and we were immediately impressed with her market knowledge and straight-shooting delivery.

"Markets work best with active and informed participants," Stewart said during one of our initial conversations. "I see my role as conveying an accurate representation of the markets so that producers make the best decision possible for their operation. A critical part of that accuracy is to cut through all the confusion and get straight to the points driving the markets at that time."

Her first-hand knowledge of the rigors of the cattle business continues, as her commentary will come to us from the ranch where she and her husband run a cowherd near Cody.

There is no denying it's been a tough ride on the livestock front lately in the DTN offices, with the passing of both Walt Hackney and John Harrington in recent months. As we welcome Stewart, I also want to give my sincerest thanks to Kment and Nellson, plus contributors Robin Schmahl, Elaine Kub and many others who have helped fill in and continue to help us help you, our readers.

You'll see Stewart's growing presence in columns, blogs and in video commentary. Her first "Call the Market" column can be found in our Ag News segment this week (https://www.dtnpf.com/…)and you can catch her Monday afternoon Facebook live updates on the Cattle Market News Facebook page, plus we're linking to that via our DTN/Progressive Farmer Facebook spot, which you're invited to follow.

More on all that, as well as some other news on the livestock analysis front, to come.
