OMAHA (DTN) -- The DTN average price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 34 locations reporting for the week ended April 7 was $294 per ton, up $1 on average versus one week ago. Prices continue to react to soybean meal prices, and some states are showing higher prices where run rates were slow.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended Thursday, April 7, was 108.64%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 63.88%, and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $10.89, compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $9.69.

The Energy Information Administration reported Wednesday that plant production declined to the lowest level since late February. Total ethanol production declined a second week, falling 33,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 1.003 million bpd last week. Output was 2.9% higher than the same time in 2021, while four-week average output totaled 1.027 million bpd, up 69,000 bpd from four-week period of 2021.

In its weekly DDGS export update, the U.S. Grains Council said: "Barge CIF NOLA and FOB Gulf DDGS values are sharply lower amid improving river navigation and increased barge availability. Barge CIF NOLA DDGS values are down $40 per metric ton (mt) this week for May/June while FOB NOLA offers are down $30/mt at $382 for May shipment. Prices for containerized DDGS into southeast Asia are lower this week following the decline in ocean freight. Brokers indicate offers for 40-foot containers to Southeast Asia are down $30/Mt on average this week at $462 for May, June, and July shipment."
