Hybrid How-To is the cover story of the September 2024 issue of Progressive Farmer, and one of the many stories in the special seed package in that issue. We're beginning to share those pieces on our digital platforms this week. (DTN/Progressive Farmer photo by Jason Jenkins)

As I've noted before, we look forward to sharing special issues and story series that originated in our Progressive Farmer magazine. That sharing isn't simply a reuse of content, it often allows us to add information into those stories, and add entire pieces to a series, due to the relative flexibility of the digital world versus the very finite space limitations in physical magazines. So even if you have your latest PF issue handy, there's likely new things to learn from the online version of the package.

Today we're kicking off sharing the special seed-buying package which originally appeared in the September issue of the magazine. On DTN, the series is called Savvy Seed Decisions.

As someone who intensely covered the seed industry for more than 20 years, I always look forward to what Crops Technology Editor Pam Smith, Crops Editor Jason Jenkins and others on the DTN/PF team will serve up as farmers begin to order seeds for the next year's crop. This year's package was spearheaded by Jenkins, and features an in-depth look at the hybrid seed corn production world, an assessment of the latest consolidation among seed brands, some handy ideas on cover crop seed mixes and seed treatments and a range of other articles on the topic.

The first of those stories can be found here: "A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Hybrid Corn Production," https://www.dtnpf.com/….

We hope they help add depth to your seed-buying choices and to your overall knowledge of the business that is so critical to U.S. grain production.
