Senate Farm Bill Advances
The Senate Agriculture Committee on Wednesday approved a farm bill. The vote was 20 to 1 because Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, is opposed to the bill until he gets a payment limits amendment considered.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he wants the bill passed on the Senate floor before the July 4 recess that begins on June 29.
Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kan., said he hopes the bill will come up next week. Senate Agriculture ranking member Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., joked that the floor action will take only one hour. Roberts pointed out that the 2014 farm bill took only two days to pass.
