Rollin' Along

Use a board as a rim roller when painting. (Illustration by Ray E. Watkins Jr.)

Glenn Dill, Tremont, Illinois, found an efficient -- and easy -- way to paint rims. Depending on the width of the barrel (the space inside the rim), Dill lays out a length of board to match it -- for example, a 2 x 4 or a 2 x 6 that matches that narrowest part of the barrel. As he paints the rim, he rolls it back and forth, the board guiding it in place as it moves.
