Cable Spool Hayrack (Illustration by Ray E. Watkins Jr.)

R.L. Richard, Iowa, Louisiana, built this hayrack from a fiber optic cable spool wrapped in 18-inch-wide, heavy-duty concrete reinforcement wire. The bottom is made from the same wire material. Richard welded four evenly spaced 10-inch legs to the bottom outside edge of the spool and one in the middle to keep the hay off the ground. The rack is 8 feet wide and holds two round bales.
