Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN)— Indications of bitter cold easing in the Southern Plains and a consistent pattern across Brazil and Argentina are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Wednesday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for variable conditions across the Midwest. A system may produce more moderate to heavy snowfall across the eastern portions of the region later this week. Afterward, temperatures will rise toward above normal territory for next week. The northern Midwest has a drier pattern with moderation in temperatures beginning during midweek.

MODERATING SOUTHERN PLAINS CONDITIONS

Southern Plains wheat areas will see showers across the south during Wednesday. Temperatures will trend warmer through the balance of the week. Following the harsh mid-February cold wave, the focus will turn back to drought concern. The southwest portion remains in drought and was largely bypassed by winter precipitation during the past five days.

COLD WAVE EASING IN NORTHERN PLAINS

The Northern Plains have continued cold conditions. However, the cold wave is showing moderation. Temperatures are forecast to be on the rise for the remainder of the week into the weekend. Recent conditions have been stressful for livestock but will improve.

MIXED BRAZIL PATTERN

Across Brazil, moderate to heavy rain continues in central and northern areas through the next week. This additional rain will bring further disruption to soybean harvest. Southern areas will be dry or will have only light rainfall. This will improve harvest and double-crop fieldwork conditions. However, the lack of showers could be a concern for newly planted corn.

LIGHT ARGENTINA RAIN

Argentina's primary crop areas have scattered showers during the next seven days. Most rain that occurs will be in southern areas. A drier trend in northern areas will maintain variable crop conditions.

RECORD AUSTRALIA WHEAT CROP

Australia's official latest wheat crop estimate places the total production at a record volume of more than 33 million metric tons. This record total is a result of favorable rain during the crop year. Heaviest rain was recorded in eastern Australia. The rainfall is related to the presence of La Nina in the Pacific Ocean during the past six months.
