OMAHA (DTN) -- A cool pattern with some precipitation in the central United States, and more reduction in Australia wheat crop forecasts, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

SLOW MIDWEST HARVEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a continued wet and cool pattern in much of the Midwest. This combination is unfavorable for maturing and harvesting corn and soybeans.

CROP LOSS IN NORTHERN PLAINS

The Northern Plains has crop loss due to unfavorably wet and cold conditions. Low temperatures this week will hinder crop drying, but may allow some machinery progress in fields.

CHILLY AND DRY IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains crop areas will have very cool to cold conditions and limited rain through the remainder of this week. The western portions of the region have had less than 10% of average precipitation during the past 30 days, which limits the moisture available for the new winter wheat crop.

MOSTLY DRY IN PRAIRIES

In the Canadian Prairies, dry conditions will be in effect for harvest in most areas during the next week. Harvest progress is from 20 to 30 percentage points behind average in the western and central areas of the region.

CENTRAL BRAZIL RAIN

In central Brazil, beneficial rain and lower temperatures are improving soybean planting conditions. The state of Parana continues to have lower amounts of rain.

INCREASED ARGENTINA RAIN FORECAST

In Argentina, moderate to heavy rain is forecast over the next week. This will benefit soil moisture for corn planting. Western areas will have lighter amounts. Dryness has been notable in a reduction in wheat crop prospects.

LIGHT AUSTRALIA RAIN

Light rain is forecast for Australia wheat areas in the next week. However, drought has already drastically reduced the nation’s wheat crop prospects. Production is estimated at fewer than 16 million metric tons, more than 30% below the five-year average.
