OMAHA (DTN) -- Most retail fertilizer prices continued to be just slightly higher during the last week of April 2024, according to sellers surveyed by DTN. Prices for six of the eight major fertilizers were up slightly from a month ago, while prices for the remaining two fertilizers were slightly lower.

No fertilizer saw a significant price move, which DTN designates as anything 5% or more.

The six fertilizers that were slightly more expensive compared to last month were DAP with an average price of $781 per ton, MAP $830/ton, urea $585/ton, 10-34-0 $641/ton, UAN28 $364/ton and UAN32 $418/ton.

The two fertilizers that were just slightly lower in price were potash with an average price of $513/ton and anhydrous with an average price of $794/ton.

On a price per pound of nitrogen basis, the average urea price was $0.64/lb.N, anhydrous $0.48/lb.N, UAN28 $0.65/lb.N and UAN32 $0.65/lb.N.

Last week, DTN reported on the most recent update in the continuing Moroccan phosphate fertilizer trade battle (https://www.dtnpf.com/…. The U.S. Commerce Department announced plans to raise tariffs on phosphorus fertilizer imported from Morocco from 2.12% to 14.21%.

This decision comes after department officials last November agreed to conduct a review on countervailing duties against Moroccan phosphate products and lower the import duties from 19.975% to 2.12% (https://www.dtnpf.com/…).

This latest decision concerns the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA). Its leaders said last Friday they are again worried about the availability and price of inputs.

"The price of corn has dropped, and input costs are already high, so the Commerce Department's decision is the last thing farmers needed," said Harold Wolle, a Minnesota farmer and NCGA president. "If fertilizers continue to go up in price and are hard to secure, farmers will only have Mosaic and the Commerce Department to thank."

The Commerce Department's action comes after the domestic fertilizer company Mosaic requested action from the agency in 2023 over an import dispute with another multinational company, NCGA said.

Most fertilizers are lower compared to one year ago, but one fertilizer is slightly higher. MAP is 3% higher looking back a year.

The remaining fertilizers are lower. Urea is 2% less expensive, DAP is 5% lower, 10-34-0 13% less expensive, both anhydrous and UAN28 are 14% lower, and both potash and UAN32 are now 18% less expensive compared to a year prior.

DTN gathers fertilizer price bids from agriculture retailers each week to compile the DTN Fertilizer Index. DTN first began reporting data in November 2008.

The recent bridge collapse in the Port of Baltimore will have limited effects on the U.S. UAN import market, according to Rabobank. You can read about it here: https://www.dtnpf.com/….
