DAP, Potash Prices Post Significant Gains Over Last Month
OMAHA (DTN) -- Retail fertilizer prices continue to move higher, led by two products -- Potash and DAP -- according to retailers contacted for the first week of July 2021.
Potash was up 9% compared to last month and had an average price of $491/ton. Potash has pushed higher in recent weeks thanks to supply issues and increasing global demand.
The other fertilizer that was significantly higher, which DTN designates as 5% or more, is DAP. The phosphorus fertilizer was 5% more expensive compared to the prior month and now has an average price of $690/ton.
The remaining six fertilizers saw just slight price increases.
The average price for urea was up 4% at $549/ton.
Four fertilizers' prices increased 2% compared to last month. MAP had an average price of $729/ton, anhydrous $732/ton, UAN28 $371/ton and UAN32 $421/ton.
10-34-0, at $624/ton, was 1% higher.
On a price per pound of nitrogen basis, the average urea price was at $0.60/lb.N, anhydrous $0.45/lb.N, UAN28 $0.66/lb.N and UAN32 $0.66/lb.N.
German fertilizer manufacturer Bayer hopes to help Brazilian farmers change their farming practices, so their corn and soybean crops can drain more greenhouse gas from the atmosphere. Dow Jones reported Bayer is joining forces with local entities, including the federal agency for agricultural research Embrapa, to work with Brazilian farmers.
The company said it hopes to expand its clientele in the South American agricultural powerhouse as global consumers demand more climate-friendly products. However, many challenges remain in Brazil, including the fact that carbon markets are just developing and Brazilian farmers are known for expanding their crops at the expense of native forests, which are natural carbon sinks.
Retail fertilizer prices compared to a year ago show all fertilizers have increased significantly.
10-34-0 is now 34% more expensive, potash is 36% higher, urea is 52% more expensive, both anhydrous and UAN28 are 59% higher, UAN32 is 55% more expensive, DAP is 70% higher and MAP is 71% more expensive compared to last year.
DTN collects roughly 1,700 retail fertilizer bids from 310 retailer locations weekly. Not all fertilizer prices change each week. Prices are subject to change at any time.
DTN Pro Grains subscribers can find current retail fertilizer price in the DTN Fertilizer Index on the Fertilizer page under Farm Business.
Retail fertilizer charts dating back to 2010 are available in the DTN fertilizer segment. The charts included cost of N/lb., DAP, MAP, potash, urea, 10-34-0, anhydrous, UAN28 and UAN32.
