Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Continued dryness in southern Brazil, and a heavy rain pattern for northern Argentina, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

WARM MIDWEST PATTERN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for almost the entire Midwest, except possibly the Ohio river valley, to be drier and warmer during the next week. This milder trend will favor transportation. Winter wheat has no significant cold weather threat at this time.

MILDER NORTHERN PLAINS FORECAST

Across the Northern Plains, a second surge of very cold air early this week was stressful for livestock and transportation. A much warmer trend is forecast over the next week to 10 days, which will notably improve conditions.

VARIABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS PATTERN

In the Southern Plains, recent cold conditions moved the winter wheat crop into dormancy under favorable moisture conditions. No damaging cold is indicated. A warming trend is expected at the end of this week and for most of next week.

DRIER NORTHERN BRAZIL FORECAST

In Brazil's northern crop areas, short-term conditions are favorable for filling soybeans in Mato Grosso and Goias. However, the pattern is turning hotter and drier. This is favorable for early harvest, but may be stressful to pod-filling soybeans.

MORE SOUTHERN BRAZIL HEAT AND DRYNESS

In southern Brazil, heat and dryness continue to stress developing soybeans, especially pod-filling soybeans in Parana and Mato Grosso do Sul. Crop losses are expected. These losses will increase if upper-level high pressure forms again next week. Farther south, Rio Grande do Sul will see moderate to heavy rain, with generally favorable crop conditions.

ADDITIONAL RAIN FOR ARGENTINA

In Argentina, persistent moderate to heavy rain is forecast for northern crop areas during the next week. Flooding and crop damage are possible. Southern areas have lighter showers and generally favorable crop conditions.

FAVORABLE TREND IN BLACK SEA

Winter grain areas of eastern Europe, Ukraine and western Russia will turn colder during the next week to 10 days, but not cold enough to harm dormant crops.

NO COLD DAMAGE IN CHINA

China's wheat areas had a cold snap recently. However, the event was not cold enough to damage dormant winter grains. No cold threat is indicated over the next 10 days.

WEEKEND SOUTH AFRICA SHOWERS

South Africa crop areas had scattered thunderstorms and cooler weather during the past week. The moisture is favorable for developing crops and additional planting.
