Top 5 Things to Watch
Yield Tours, WASDE and Data Trust
OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of Aug. 10. Watch for coverage of these and other topics throughout the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.
Note that all report release and webinar times are Central Daylight Savings Time unless otherwise noted.
1. Digital Yield Tour: This week marks the reveal of our eighth-annual DTN Digital Yield tour, which reports on yield expectations for corn and soybeans across the country. This is the second year we're using DTN proprietary yield models, developed by our ClearAg group, and will expand the coverage to 11 states that are key corn and soybean production areas. For details on the tour, and the days various state yield predictions will be released, see the story by DTN Ag Business Editor Katie Dehlinger here: https://www.dtnpf.com/….

2. It's WASDE week: In addition to the growing number of yield prediction models, including DTN's, we'll have reporting on USDA's August Crop Production and World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) reports on Tuesday. USDA drops the numbers at 11 a.m.; we'll post those moments later, followed by analysis and commentary updates throughout the morning. We'll also have our follow-up webinar at 12:30 p.m. To register for that, go here: https://www.dtn.com/….
3. Speaking of reports: Each week this Top 5 Things to Watch article includes a list of government and public economic and markets reports that are due out (see item 5 below). New this week is not just anticipation of the reports and their potential influence on markets, we'll now be tracking if any bearish news reports draw ire, criticism, and/or pink slips from the Trump administration, following last week's firing of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer following a less-than-expected jobs report and the downward adjustment of previous-months labor numbers.
4. Weather notes: The weather pattern is expected to remain active into mid-August with scattered showers and storms moving in this week. Some storms could be severe. Temperatures will remain on the lower side going into next week. Showers will return to the Delta, and a cold front moving into the Gulf Coast could provide showers in northern coastal areas throughout the week. On the opposite coast, temperatures will start to rise again during the weekend and into this week in the Northwest, leading to a potential heat wave. Dry conditions are expected for much of next week as systems pass by to the north in Western Canada. (https://www.dtnpf.com/…) While rains in the north may be too late for drought-stricken crops, it could help suppress some wildfires in forested regions. The pattern could remain active during the week with multiple systems moving through.
