Kosovo Opp. Urges Gov't to Resign
PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) -- Kosovo opposition supporters have held a rally urging the government to resign, saying it has broken the country's constitution in deals with neighboring Serbia and Montenegro.
Opposition leaders called for a new election but Saturday's rally in Pristina, the capital, was peaceful — unlike violent demonstrations held since September to protest a deal with Serbia that gives more power to ethnic Serbs in Kosovo and a border demarcation pact with Montenegro in which Kosovo loses more than 8,000 hectares (20,000 acres).
Kosovo needs to formally pass the demarcation pact if its citizens want to enjoy visa-free travel in Europe.
Kosovo's Alliance for the Future and the Initiative for Kosovo held Saturday's rally without their main ally, the Self-Determination Movement Party, with which they have had disagreements.
