JFK, Newark See Long Flight Delays

NEW YORK (AP) -- Some flights arriving at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and New Jersey's Newark International Airport are experiencing more than 2 1/2 hour delays.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration says Saturday evening's delays are being caused by "an external communications problem" that is affecting air traffic control facilities. The agency says technicians are working to quickly resolve the issue.

Flights taking off from the airports were also being delayed more than an hour.

A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates both airports, referred a call for comment to the FAA.

Delays were also reported at LaGuardia, Long Island MacArthur, Westchester County and Teterboro airports.

The FAA is encouraging people to check with their airlines to see if their flights are affected.
