Trop. Depression Nears Bahamas

MIAMI (AP) -- A late-season tropical depression is approaching the central Bahamas and is expected to strengthen to a tropical storm.

The depression's maximum sustained winds Monday morning are near 35 mph (55 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later in the day.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for the central and northwestern Bahamas.

The depression is centered about 30 miles (45 kilometers) southeast of Cat Island in the Bahamas and is moving west-northwest near 15 mph (24 kph).
