Haitians Vote in Long-Delayed Elections

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) -- Haitians are electing legislators to Parliament after a very long wait. It's been roughly eight months since the legislature was dissolved and nearly four years since the vote was supposed to be held.

The start of Sunday's election has been rife with delays and disorder since polling stations opened at 6:00 am (1000 GMT).

In the capital of Port-au-Prince, a number of voting centers were still waiting for ballots a few hours after voting was supposed to start. Some citizens who said they were registered to vote complained their names did not appear on official lists.

One voting center in downtown Port-au-Prince was closed by authorities after fistfights broke out inside. Young men tore up paper ballots and rocks were thrown before police shut the center down.
