One Side is as Good as Two
Beginning as early as 3 days of age, calves can now be vaccinated against respiratory diseases using a single, 2 mL intranasal application of Inforce 3. The vaccine recently earned a single-nostril administration claim, making it more convenient to administer.
Inforce 3 protects against respiratory disease caused by Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR), Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV) and Parainfluenza 3 (PI3) virus.

Daniel Scruggs, managing technical services veterinarian with Zoetis, noted Inforce 3 can override maternal antibodies to moderate IBR respiratory diseases for at least 15 weeks, and provide measurable IBR protection for more than 6 months in IBR-naïve neonatal calves.
In efficacy studies calves vaccinated with Inforce 3 survived BRSV when 90% of unvaccinated control animals did not, and showed fewer lung lesions and reduced viral shedding.
Concerns that maternal antibodies can reduce the effectiveness of vaccines in young calves is often a reason producers wait to vaccinate. Scruggs said Inforce 3 can be given as soon as possible in a calf's life and the demonstrated duration of protection allows for more flexible revaccination timing, depending on the health recommendations of the herd veterinarian.
"This timing works well with herd management and gives producers more flexibility to adapt a meaningful vaccination program," Scruggs added.
Inforce 3 is for use in all types, ages and classes of cattle, including neonatal calves, weaned and high-stress stockers. It is sold in one-, 10-, 25- and 50-dose sizes, cost averages around $1.50 per dose.
