John Deere has introduced two new crossover utility Gators for 2016, the XUV590i and XUV590i S4. Deere says the two are designed for crops and livestock producers who desire performance, comfort and customization.

The XUV590i and the four seat XUV590i S4 models are equipped with 586cc twin-cylinder engines and independent four-wheel suspension.

"The XUV590i and XUV590i S4 four-passenger models were designed to get more chores checked off your to-do list, in a more comfortable setting," said Mark Davey, John Deere marketing manager, Gator utility vehicles. "Producers can now get from task to task even faster with a top speed of over 45 mph, thanks to quick acceleration powered by a 32 horsepower (hp), liquid-cooled inline twin-cylinder gasoline engine."

Added to the John Deere Gator Utility lines of vehicles, consumers now have 18 models to choose from. The Gator XUV590i falls into the middle of crossover line of Gators. The cargo box in the two-seat version holds 800 pounds of supplies and it tows, with a 2-inch receiver up to 1,100 pounds (the four-seater carries 400 pounds in the cargo box). The two-seat version retails for $9,779 (add $1,100 for power steering). The four-seater sells for $11,399 and $12,499 with power steering.

For comparison, the smaller crossover Gator XUV550 mounts a 16 hp, 570cc V-twin engine. With a top speed of 28 mph it sells for $8,139. On the other end of the scale, the XUV825i carries an 812cc, 50 hp power plant. It has a top speed of 44 mph. The XUV825i is priced at $13,159 with the power steering option. A Gator outside the crossover category for example, is the high performance Gator RSX 860i. It runs on a 62 hp, 839cc, V-twin. With a top speed of 60 mph, it sells for a beginning price of $12,299.

The two-seat XUV590i has a minimum ground clearance of 10.5 inches minimum ground clearance; the four-seater, 9.3 inches of ground clearance.

The Gator XUV590i and XUV590i S4 also come standard with an 875 watt, 65-ampere alternator to run auxiliary attachments, such as lights, winches and sprayers.

The two-seat and four-seat models feature a large, 7.4 gallon fuel tank. The instrument cluster is backlit and provides information, such as speed, engine rpm, fuel level, coolant temperature and warning lights for information, such as power steering, maintenance reminders and seat belt reminder.
