LINCOLN, Neb. (DTN) -- Seven of eight fertilizer prices tracked by DTN showed increases from the previous month, although none saw significant price jumps in the final week of October.

UAN28 led seven fertilizer prices higher with a 4% jump from $430 per ton to $446/ton. It was the fifth consecutive week that all but one nutrient price showed an increase.

Anhydrous came in at 3% higher month over month, spiking from $979/ton to $1,007/ton. It was the highest price for anhydrous since the first week of July when the price hit $1,032/ton.

UAN32 and potash both increased in price by 2% compared to last month. UAN32's price increased from $483/ton to $494/ton in this update. Potash jumped from $499/ton to $510/ton.

DAP, MAP and 10-34-0 all saw price increases of about 1%. DAP increased from $934/ton to $941/ton. MAP jumped from $974/ton to $987/ton, while 10-34-0 saw a small increase from $702 to $708.

The price of urea continued to fall in this latest update, dropping about 2% from $683 to $669.

On a price per pound of nitrogen basis, the average urea price was $0.73/lb.N, anhydrous $0.61/lb.N, UAN28 $0.80/lb.N and UAN32 $0.77/lb.N.

According to a recently published study by Purdue University's Center for Commercial Agriculture, Brazilian farms spent more money each year on fertilizer than U.S. farms from 2020 to 2024.

That average was about $85 per acre in Brazil compared to about $57 per acre on U.S. farms.

"The difference reflects both how much Brazilian farms apply and what they pay for it," the study said.

"The acidic, nutrient-poor soils of Brazil's Cerrado require large amounts of fertilizer and lime."

According to Purdue, Brazil is the world's largest fertilizer importer, importing about 72% of its phosphate and 96% of its potash. That compares to 16% and 95% in the U.S.

"U.S. fertilizer costs peaked that year at $78 per acre, double their 2020 level, while Brazilian costs peaked a year later, in 2023, at $150, nearly three times their 2020 level, as fertilizer bought at the 2022 price peak likely fed into Brazil's 2022/23 crop," Purdue said in its study posted to its website on Oct. 30, 2026.

"By 2024, costs had eased to $83 per acre in Brazil and $61 in the United States."

All eight fertilizers are now higher in price compared to one year earlier.

DAP is 2% higher, potash is 5% more expensive, UAN32 is 6% higher, MAP is 6% higher, 10-34-0 is 6% more expensive, UAN28 is 8% higher, urea is 12% more expensive and anhydrous is 19% higher looking back to last year.

DTN gathers fertilizer price bids from agriculture retailers each week to compile the DTN Fertilizer Index. DTN first began reporting data in November 2008.
