Top 5 Things to Watch

OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of Aug. 9. Watch for coverage of these and other topics throughout the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.

1. DTN Digital Yield Tour: The 2026 DTN Digital Yield Tour kicks off Monday, Aug. 10. For the first time, DTN will release national corn and soybean yield estimates to go along with yields for 11 individual states. This is the third year the tour is based on DTN's proprietary yield models. National and state yields for corn and soybeans will be published as follows:

-- Monday: National Overview, Illinois, Wisconsin

-- Tuesday: Iowa, Minnesota

-- Wednesday: North Dakota, South Dakota

-- Thursday: Indiana, Ohio

-- Friday: Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri

-- Saturday: Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas

2. WASDE Wednesday: In addition to our yield predictions, USDA releases its August World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report on Wednesday at 11 a.m. DTN analysis will follow moments later, with updates throughout the morning. 3. Pollination weather: This week's storm track could go directly over the Corn Belt with some swaths of heavier rain possible at times, beneficial for ear and pod filling. Storms will continue to favor the Central Plains, but monsoonal moisture from the Desert Southwest could nudge into West Texas. Rain may come just in time to benefit reproductive corn in northern areas, but it may be too late in the south, where early harvest will start at the end of the month. Temperatures will rise back into the 90s Fahrenheit across the Northern Plains and other areas. In the south, showers will be spotty across the Delta, but rains are worsening conditions for maturing soybeans and cotton. To the north, soil moisture conditions continue to be stressful in the Canadian Prairies that have not received some of the spotty rainfall these past few weeks.

4. World watch: With the Senate heading out on summer recess and farm bill negotiations stalled, political attention moves back to the wars in Iran and Ukraine and their influence on global ag markets.

5. Reports due this week: Monday at 10 a.m., Grain Inspections. At 3 p.m., Crop Progress, including DTN analysis. DTN Digital Yield Tour numbers will be released throughout the week (see item No. 1). Tuesday at 9 a.m., Existing Home Sales. Wednesday at 7:30 a.m., Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Core CPI for July. At 9:30 a.m., EIA's weekly petroleum report, including ethanol production and stocks. At 11 a.m., Cotton Ginnings, USDA Crop Production and August WASDE reports. At 1 p.m., U.S. Federal Monthly Federal Budget for July. At 2 p.m. both Turkey and Broiler Hatchery reports. Thursday at 7:30 a.m., Grain Export Sales, Initial Jobless Claims, Producer Price Index (PPI) and Core PPI. At 10:30 a.m., Weekly Economic Index, and at 2 p.m., Livestock Slaughter and Slaughter Weekly. Friday at 7:30 a.m., U.S. Retail Sales for July. At 9 a.m., Business Inventories June and Consumer Sentiment (preliminary) for August. At 1 p.m., Cattle on Feed and Milk Production, and County Estimates of Cash Rent. At 2:30 p.m., CFTC's Commitment of Traders report.
