Top 5 Things to Watch
Cattle Numbers Update, Flood Recovery Continues
OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of April 13. Watch for coverage of these and other topics through the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.
Note that all report release and webinar times are Central Daylight Savings Time unless otherwise noted.
1. Weather and planting progress: The planting pace should pick up somewhat as most areas will be dry through the weekend, with a system bringing a chance of showers to the Western Corn Belt early the week of April 13. The chance of isolated showers spreads to the Delta and Eastern Corn Belt mid-week. Most areas will have normal to above-normal temperatures through the week, with lower temperatures in the East.
2. Weather recovery: As waters recede in the Mid-South and East, we'll watch for damage to soft red winter wheat fields in those areas. Damage to roads and bridges may also influence spring farm activities.
3. Safrina crop progress: World corn stocks are down slightly, according to the April 10 World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report, keeping some bullishness in the market. Eyes now shift back to the condition of the Brazilian safrina (second) corn crop as the U.S. crop begins to be put in the ground.
4. Cattle on Feed Thursday: We'll have a preview of report expectations and then report numbers and analysis Thursday afternoon.
