EIA: US Ethanol Output, Demand Up on Week While Stocks Fall

OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) -- The Energy Information Administration reports overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.019 million barrels per day (bpd), up 19,000 bpd week-on-week as of May 17, while 36,000 bpd, or 3.5% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 993,000 bpd was 15,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.

Midwest ethanol production averaged 964,000 bpd, up 10,000 bpd week-on-week and 33,000 bpd, or 3.4% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 940,000 bpd was 16,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.

Ethanol blending activity in the U.S. averaged 935,000 bpd, up 15,000 bpd week-on-week and 6,000 bpd, or 0.6% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 918,000 bpd was 7,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.

Blender inputs at the East Coast were up 4,000 bpd in the week while inputs in the Midwest were up 5,000 bpd, up 2,000 bpd on the Gulf Coast and up 2,000 bpd on the West Coast.

Domestic ethanol inventories ended the week at 24.212 million bbl, down 277,000 bbl week-on-week and 2.171 million bbl, or 9% higher than in the same week last year.

East Coast PADD 1 inventories ended the week at 7.695 million bbl, down 213,000 bbl week-on-week and 532,000 bbl, or 6.9% higher than in the same week last year.

Midwest PADD 2 inventories ended the week at 9.39 million bbl, down 207,000 bbl week-on-week and 1.009 million bbl, or 10.7% higher than in the same week last year.

Gulf Coast PADD 3 inventories ended the week at 4.479 million bbl, up 215,000 bbl week-on-week and 551,000 bbl, or 12.3% higher than in the same week last year.

West Coast PADD 5 inventories ended the week at 2.29 million bbl, down 69,000 bbl week-on-week and 85,000 bbl, or 3.7% higher than in the same week last year.
