OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of Feb. 25. Watch for coverage of these and other topics through the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.

All times listed below are in Central Standard Time (CST) unless otherwise mentioned.

1. Come see us in Houston: DTN and Progressive Farmer will have a full crew at the 2024 Commodity Classic in Houston this week. We'll be in the trade show, Booth 2541 Wednesday through Friday. On Friday our Ag Meteorologist John Baranick and Lead Analyst Todd Hultman will present a 2024 weather and markets outlook at 12:30 p.m. Many of us will be around throughout the week, so say "hi" if you see us. Commodity Classic is a great time to hear what's on your minds.

2. South America watch: Coming back from the weekend, traders will focus on South American weather, and watch for latest crop reports. Showers will become more isolated in Brazil's central states. A front coming north from Argentina is bringing heavier showers into southern areas. Speaking of Argentina, the country will see an active pattern through the week with chances of scattered showers.

3. Cattle market updates: The Feb. 23 Cattle on Feed Report came in mostly as expected, with numbers still under 2023 levels. For a broader conversation on the market outlook listen to Episode 182 of our Field Posts podcast. Host Sarah Mock talks cattle outlook with DTN Livestock Analyst ShayLe Stewart, which can be found here: https://www.dtnpf.com/….

4. Weekly weather changes: A larger storm system will move through the Northern and Central Plains early in the week with widespread precipitation, including some snow, but is forecast to be mostly light. Temperatures will dip only briefly before rising above-normal again later next week. Precipitation amounts should be lighter central and south, but soil moisture in the region is mostly favorable as wheat wakes up early and starts growing. The Midwest could see a larger storm Tuesday and Wednesday, with widespread precipitation including thunderstorms and snow. A drop in temperatures will only be brief as they rise again a day or two later. There's also high chance of storms through the Delta, adding to soil moisture levels ahead of spring planting.

5. Economic reports to watch: Monday, at 9 a.m., the New Homes Sales report is out, followed by Grain Inspections at 10 a.m. and the NASS Chicken and Eggs report at 2 p.m. On Tuesday, reports start at 7:30 a.m. with Durable-Goods Orders, the 8 a.m. release of the Case-Shiller Home Price Index, the CST Consumer Confidence report at 9 a.m., and at 2 p.m. the Cattle Statistical Bulletin. Wednesday we'll have the 4th Q GDP and Advanced Trade Balance, and the Retail and Wholesale Inventories, all at 7:30 a.m. At 10 a.m. the EIA will release the Weekly Petroleum Status report, including ethanol production and stocks. At 2 p.m., there will be the Broiler Hatchery report and Poultry Slaughter report.
