EIA: Domestic Ethanol Production Plunged 22% Last Week

OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) -- Energy Information Administration data show overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 818,000 barrels per day (bpd) in the week ended Jan. 19, down 236,000 bpd week-on-week and 194,000 bpd, or 23.7%, lower than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 996,000 bpd was 44,000 bpd above the same four weeks in 2022.

Midwest ethanol production averaged 766,000 bpd, down 235,000 bpd week-on-week and 197,000 bpd, or 25.7%, lower than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 942,000 bpd was 39,000 bpd above the same four weeks in 2022.

Ethanol blending activity in the U.S. averaged 798,000 bpd, down 37,000 bpd week-on-week and 32,000 bpd, or 4%, lower than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 812,000 bpd was 7,000 bpd above the same four weeks in 2022.

Blender inputs at the East Coast were down 1,000 bpd on the week while inputs in the Midwest were down 19,000 bpd, down 9,000 bpd on the Gulf Coast and down 6,000 bpd on the West Coast.

Domestic ethanol inventories ended the week at 25.815 million barrels (bbl), up 120,000 bbl week-on-week and 738,000 bbl, or 2.9%, higher than in the same week last year.

East Coast PADD 1 inventories ended the week at 7.727 million bbl, up 15,000 bbl week-on-week and 13,000 bbl, or 0.2%, higher than in the same week last year.

Midwest PADD 2 inventories ended the week at 10.208 million bbl, down 173,000 bbl week-on-week and 441,000 bbl, or 4.3%, higher than in the same week last year.

Gulf Coast PADD 3 inventories ended the week at 4.743 million bbl, up 93,000 bbl week-on-week and 255,000 bbl, or 5.4%, higher than in the same week last year.

West Coast PADD 5 inventories ended the week at 2.783 million bbl, up 194,000 bbl week-on-week and 29,000 bbl, or 1%, higher than in the same week last year.
