Ethanol Inventories Rise

EIA: Domestic Ethanol Production Rebounds, Up 4.5% on Week

OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) -- Overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.069 million barrels per day (bpd) through Aug. 11, up 46,000 bpd week-on-week and 86,000 bpd, or 8%, higher than in the same week last year, according to Energy Information Administration data released Aug. 16. Four-week average output at 1.063 million bpd was 46,000 bpd above the same four weeks in 2022.

Midwest ethanol production averaged 1.012 million bpd, up 47,000 bpd week-on-week and 86,000 bpd, or 8.5% higher than in the same week last year. The four-week average output at 1 million bpd was 41,000 bpd above the same four weeks in 2022.

Ethanol blending activity in the U.S. averaged 926,000 bpd, up 5,000 bpd week-on-week and 3,000 bpd, or 0.3% lower than in the same week last year. The four-week average output at 921,000 bpd was 11,000 bpd above the same four weeks in 2022.

Blender inputs at the East Coast were up 5,000 bpd in the week while inputs in the Midwest were flat, up 1,000 bpd on the Gulf Coast and unchanged on the West Coast.

Domestic ethanol inventories ended the week at 23.435 million barrels (bbl), up 555,000 bbl week-on-week and 11,000 bbl lower than in the same week last year.

East Coast PADD 1 inventory ended the week at 7.102 million bbl, down 87,000 bbl week-on-week and 407,000 bbl, or 5.7% lower than in the same week last year.

Midwest PADD 2 inventory ended the week at 9.128 million bbl, up 494,000 bbl week-on-week and 671,000 bbl, or 7.4% higher than in the same week last year.

Gulf Coast PADD 3 inventory ended the week at 4.387 million bbl, up 83,000 bbl week-on-week and 30,000 bbl, or 0.7% higher than in the same week last year.

West Coast PADD 5 inventories ended the week at 2.465 million bbl, up 52,000 bbl week-on-week and 288,000 bbl, or 11.7% lower than in the same week last year.
