US Ethanol Production Soars
EIA: US Ethanol Plant Production Soars 9% to 10-Week High
OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) -- Data released by the Energy Information Administration on Wednesday, Oct. 19, show domestic ethanol production increased for a third straight week through Oct. 14, jumping 9% to a 10-week high, while blender inputs held higher and inventory of the fuel blendstock slipped.
Ethanol production in the United States surged 84,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 1.016 million bpd during the second week of October, the highest run rate since the first week of August but down 7.3% from the same time in 2021. Four-week average production at 923,000 bpd was 82,000 bpd lower than the corresponding four weeks last year.
Midwest ethanol production also continued higher for a third week, surging 80,000 bpd to 961,000 bpd.
The data show domestic blending activity rose 4,000 bpd to 908,000 bpd, 7,000 bpd higher than the same week in 2021.
Refiner and blender net inputs along the East Coast PADD 1 rose 6,000 bpd to 327,000 bpd last week while down 1,000 bpd in the Midwest PADD 2 to 246,000 bpd, and down 2,000 bpd in Gulf Coast PADD 3 to 152,000 bpd in the week-ended Oct. 14. Blender inputs were 1,000 bpd higher along the West Coast PADD 5 at 150,000 bpd.
Total ethanol stocks dipped 19,000 barrels (bbl) to 21.844 million bbl in the week profiled, 8.5% higher than the same week in 2021.
East Coast ethanol inventory held higher, up 51,000 bbl to 7.375 million bbl last week, while Midwest stocks rose 233,000 bbl to 8.117 million bbl as of Oct. 14. Gulf Coast ethanol inventory again declined, falling 94,000 bbl to 3.454 million bbl while West Coast stocks fell 209,000 bbl to 2.561 million bbl.
