Sheetz to Add E15 to 60 North Carolina Locations by 2016

OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) -- The Renewable Fuels Association on Tuesday, Jan. 20, announced Pennsylvania-based Sheetz, Inc. said it plans to offer E15 at 60 locations in North Carolina by the spring of 2016.

RFA President and CEO Bob Dinneen called the decision by Sheetz "invigorating," and said it's his "hope that all other retailers in North Carolina" follow the company's example.

Currently sold in roughly 100 stations in 15 states, E15 is approved by the Environmental Protection Agency for use in vehicles 2001 and newer as well as all flex-fuel vehicles. However, only two-thirds of new vehicle sales allow for E15 fueling and many states prohibit higher ethanol blends except for flex-fuel vehicles.

Liability concerns over misfueling for vehicles built prior to 2012 and necessary investment continue to hamper the fuel's growth.

Pennsylvania-based Sheetz operates more than 475 convenience locations throughout the state as well as West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, and North Carolina.

EIA Revises Slightly Higher 2014 Ethanol Output Estimate

OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) -- The Energy Information Administration estimated ethanol production averaged 935,000 barrels per day (bpd) in 2014, according to the latest Short-term Energy Outlook published Tuesday, Jan. 13, 4,000 bpd higher than the month prior.

This year, the agency expects domestic ethanol production to average 936,000 bpd, down from estimates at 948,000 bpd in November's Outlook.

Ethanol production in December 2014 reached an estimated monthly average record of 979,000 bpd, exceeding the previous record of 968,000 bpd set the previous month.

EIA said biodiesel production averaged an estimated 81,000 bpd in 2014, down from 89,000 bpd in 2013. Biodiesel production is forecast to average 84,000 bpd in 2015 and 2016.

The agency estimates that carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels increased 0.9% in 2014 and are forecast to rise 0.9% this year and 0.3% in 2016. These forecasts, EIA said, are sensitive to both weather and economic assumptions.
