EIA: US Ethanol Stocks Stay Flat as Production Rises

VIENNA (DTN) -- Ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.111 million barrels per day (bpd) in the week ended May 15, the Energy Information Administration reported Wednesday. That's up 29,000 bpd week-on-week and 75,000 bpd, or 7.2%, higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.055 million bpd was 32,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.

Midwest ethanol production averaged 1.056 million bpd, up 34,000 bpd week-on-week and 76,000 bpd, or 7.8%, higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 999,000 bpd was 34,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.

Ethanol blending activity in the U.S. averaged 917,000 bpd, up 9,000 bpd week-on-week and 2,000 bpd, or 0.2%, lower than in the same week last year. Over the past four weeks, blending activity was in line with year-ago levels, averaging 911,000 bpd. Blender inputs at the East Coast were up 6,000 bpd on the week while inputs in the Midwest were up 8,000 bpd, down 6,000 bpd on the Gulf Coast and up 2,000 bpd on the West Coast.

Domestic ethanol inventories ended the week at 24.875 million bbl, up 5,000 bbl week-on-week and 69,000 bbl, or 0.3%, lower than in the same week last year.

East Coast PADD 1 inventories ended the week at 7.367 million bbl, down 245,000 bbl week-on-week and 92,000 bbl, or 1.2%, lower than in the same week last year.

Midwest PADD 2 inventories ended the week at 10.153 million bbl, up 75,000 bbl week-on-week and 607,000 bbl, or 6.4%, higher than in the same week last year.

Gulf Coast PADD 3 inventories ended the week at 4.94 million bbl, up 299,000 bbl week-on-week and 99,000 bbl, or 2%, lower than in the same week last year.

West Coast PADD 5 inventories ended the week at 2.051 million bbl, down 129,000 bbl week-on-week and 496,000 bbl, or 19.5%, lower than in the same week last year.
