Man Lift (Illustrations by Ray E. Watkins Jr.)

Randy Ray, Williston, South Carolina, built a man lift from two reinforced pallets and 2 x 4s. The first pallet is reinforced with 2 x 4s all around the outside edges. The top pallet also has 2 x 4 reinforced edges and a plywood floor. Ray added a 1- x 8-inch kickplate all around the top edge of the second pallet. The top and bottom pallets are connected at the corners with 64-inch-long 2 x 4s, two to each corner. The pallets are spaced 24 inches apart. Ray built a railing around the top of the lift and attached a one-step ladder to help him get into it. He secures the lift to the tractor forks with a 2-inch ratchet strap.
