DTN ANALYSIS

"Friday's Cattle on Feed report should be received as another bullish feather for the market to tuck inside its hat," said DTN Livestock Analyst ShayLe Stewart. "The only minute difference that the actual data had compared to pre-report estimates was in the placement data, which came in 2 percentage points lighter (1,886,000 head) than originally assumed. Of the major feeding states, it was interesting to note the stark differences in placements between the states. Nebraska placements were steady compared to a year ago, Kansas placements were down 3%, Iowa placements were up 1%, but Texas placements were down 17% compared to a year ago, and Oklahoma placements were down 22% compared to a year ago. It's likely that both Texas and Oklahoma are seeing such drastic drops in placements because of the import ban on all Mexican cattle."
