Commodities Market Impact Weather

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- Warmer temperatures and the potential for a big storm moving through the U.S. next week, scattered showers in central Brazil and rain in Argentina are the weather factors driving the markets Friday.

WARM THEN STORMY FOR MIDWEST

A system moved through the Midwest on Thursday with showers and thunderstorms across the southern half of the region, including pockets of some heavier amounts. A smaller clipper system may bring showers to eastern areas this weekend, including a little snow. Temperatures may briefly dip in the east, but it continues to be very warm in the region. A larger storm will move through Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, with widespread precipitation including thunderstorms and snow. A drop in temperatures will only be brief as they rise again a day or two later.

LIMITED SHOWERS IN CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS

It should be dry in the Central and Southern Plains throughout the weekend. A larger system will move through early next week with the potential for widespread precipitation, including some snow, and a brief drop in temperatures before they rise a day or two later. Precipitation amounts should be light but soil moisture in the region is mostly favorable as wheat wakes up early and starts growing.

WARM WITH STORM COMING FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

It should be mostly warm and dry in the Northern Plains throughout the weekend. A larger storm system will move through early next week with widespread precipitation, including some snow, but is forecast to be mostly light. Temperatures will dip only briefly before rising above normal again later next week.

GOOD SOIL MOISTURE IN THE DELTA

A system moved through the Delta on Thursday with scattered thunderstorms across the north. A larger storm will move through on Wednesday, likely with more showers. The region continues to see the building of soil moisture ahead of spring planting.

MIXED SHOWERS IN BRAZIL

Wet season showers in central Brazil have been heavy recently. Heavy rain is preferred as most of the safrinha corn planting has been completed and the region is short of subsoil moisture. Scattered showers continue in central states through this weekend before becoming isolated for next week. Southern areas could use more rainfall, however. A front coming north from Argentina will bring heavier showers this weekend into next week.

SLIGHTLY ACTIVE PERIOD FOR ARGENTINA

A front moving through Argentina on Thursday brought some needed showers across the south, which continues across the north into the weekend. This kicks off a more active pattern in the country through next week with another couple of systems moving through with some scattered showers. Though some places may be missed by the scattered nature of the showers, it should be overall favorable for reproductive to filling corn and soybeans.

VERY ACTIVE IN EUROPE

A large storm system will continue in several waves going into next week with widespread precipitation across most of Europe, but especially in the west. In addition to widespread precipitation, temperatures will drop across the western half of the continent, but only back to normal. Eastern areas will remain warm and winter wheat should be waking up.
