Wet Conditions for Central Brazil

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- Showers will become more widespread across Central Brazil this weekend into the first half of next week, which could help late-planted soybeans as they fill pods. Scattered rain showers are also moving through southern Brazil today. These are the weather factors driving the markets Friday.

SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS FOR THE MIDWEST THIS WEEKEND

Temperatures will remain above normal through early next week with some of the warmest temperature anomalies expected across northern areas. Rain and snow showers will linger in eastern areas today. Another round of light snow showers is possible this weekend as a system from Canada digs south. Through early next week, more light snow may develop in northern areas as a weak system from Canada moves by. Overall, precipitation amounts will remain relatively light over the next seven days.

RAIN CHANCES RETURN TO SOUTHERN PLAINS NEXT WEEK

Mostly dry conditions are expected to persist this weekend with high pressure in place. Temperatures will fluctuate between being above and below normal this weekend into early next week; however, the Central Plains will predominantly see temperatures near to above normal while cooler air will reside in the Southern Plains. Throughout early next week, a few different systems will provide isolated to scattered showers across the Southern Plains. Most of the precipitation is forecast to remain across Texas.

MOSTLY DRY ACROSS THE NORTHERN PLAINS THIS WEEKEND

High pressure will keep conditions mostly dry across the region through this weekend and into early next week, but a few stray snow showers may develop at times as weak systems pass by to the north and east of the region. No widespread, heavy precipitation is forecast through early next week. Temperatures will continue to be near to above normal over the next seven days as well.

MORE CHANCES FOR RAIN IN SOUTHERN DELTA NEXT WEEK

Recent widespread rainfall helped increase soil moisture for much of the region and water levels on the Mississippi River and its tributaries rose slightly. High pressure returns this weekend, leading to drier conditions across much of the region. Scattered rain showers will return across southern areas next week which could lead to improvements in areas experiencing severe and extreme drought.

HEAVIER SHOWERS FOR CENTRAL BRAZIL INTO THE NEW YEAR

Showers will become more widespread by this weekend and into early next week, helping to turn around conditions for late-planted soybeans in central Brazil. Widespread rainfall will tag southern areas today and some isolated areas of heavy rain are possible.

However, the heavier rain will not be as negative of a factor for developing corn and soybeans given the period of dry weather that occurred through the first half of this week. Showers will become more isolated across southern areas next week with the bulk of precipitation shifting farther north into central Brazil. Some producers are beginning to harvest early planted soybeans in Mato Grosso and rainfall this weekend and early next week is likely too late to benefit yields for the early-harvested soybeans.

FAVORABLE CONDITIONS IN ARGENTINA

Showers have been frequent lately, keeping soils moist. Throughout this weekend and into the middle of next week, showers will become more isolated. Any substantial rainfall will be hit or miss and near to below normal precipitation is favored for the main growing areas through early next week. Temperatures will be near to below normal this weekend into early next week as well, which should help reduce crop stress for areas that miss most of the precipitation over the next several days.

SOUTHERN EUROPE IN NEED OF MORE MOISTURE

An active pattern continues into the middle of next week for northern areas of Europe as systems pour in from the Eastern Atlantic. While there are better chances for isolated to scattered showers to tag southern areas this weekend into next week, both Spain and Italy need more rainfall. Vegetative wheat in Spain will see isolated showers this weekend but more widespread, scattered rain showers don't appear possible until the middle of next week.
