Commodities Market Impact Weather

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- Dryness but moderating temperatures in the Midwest and more rain and heat for parts of the Plains and Canadian Prairies are the weather factors driving the markets Friday.

COOLER IN THE MIDWEST WITH LIMITED SHOWERS

Isolated showers fell over western areas of the Midwest over the weekend, but most areas stayed dry while temperatures eclipsed the 90-degree mark in most places. A couple of fronts will move through over the next couple of weeks, bringing temperatures down to more seasonable levels while providing some chances for rainfall elsewhere. Coverage is forecast to be low, so the developing dryness and drought may expand even with the semi-frequent showers. Temperatures will be less stressful going forward.

RAIN CONTINUES FOR CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS

Showers and thunderstorms continued to develop in the Central and Southern Plains over the weekend, causing some flooding again in the Texas Panhandle. Many areas in the west picked up some moderate or heavy rainfall, favoring drought reduction for developing crops. Periods of showers will continue to develop across the region through next week, though coverage may be lower next week.

WARMER WITH SHOWERS FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

Widespread showers developed in the Northern Plains over the weekend, but many areas have been missed. Periods of showers should continue all week and likely into next week as well, though the coverage may not be totally favorable. Most areas should get a drink, however, favorable for developing crops.

LIMITED RAINFALL FOR THE DELTA

Some isolated showers popped up in the Delta over the weekend, but most areas stayed dry. Soil moisture continues to drop in the area and showers would be most welcome. Showers continue to be very limited, though will pop up in some areas at times, but more widespread heavy rainfall is going to be needed soon to stave off the building dryness.

PERIODS OF RAIN FOR WARM CANADIAN PRAIRIES

Scattered showers moved through all three provinces of the Canadian Prairies over the weekend, helping to build soil moisture, though not all areas were hit or hit equally. Showers will remain in the region just about every day for the next two weeks, with a few fronts moving through and building heat that should lead to some isolated activity in the interim. The heat is starting to be a concern where showers have been absent, especially in the east.

DRY FOR MATURING BRAZIL CORN

It was mostly dry in Brazil over the weekend, unfavorable for filling safrinha corn and vegetative wheat. There is a slight chance for isolated showers across the far south this weekend, but most areas are going to stay dry, not unusual for this time of year. Conditions are falling toward the end of the season.

SOME SHOWERS FOR ARGENTINA

Some showers went through Argentina over the weekend, but many areas stayed dry. Several fronts moving through will bring some isolated showers over the next couple of weeks. Soil moisture is still suboptimal, but the recent run of showers has been helping in some spots. A stronger cold front will move through over the weekend, which may spread frosts and freezes to parts of the region next week.

SHOWERS SPREADING THROUGH MORE OF EUROPE

Showers have been frequent around the Mediterranean for the last couple of weeks, which have been helping drought areas and building soil moisture, but northern areas have been dry and are in need of some additional moisture. Isolated showers may spread northward this week at times but would be isolated. Coverage may increase this weekend as the pattern starts to change a bit. France and the UK may be in line for better showers for next week, though Germany and Poland may not.

MOSTLY FAVORABLE WEATHER FOR THE BLACK SEA

Some showers moved through the Black Sea region over the weekend but were mostly light. Though soil moisture is mostly favorable across the region, some additional showers would be welcome, especially in the east. Showers will be limited this week but may hit the necessary spots. Shower potential is forecast to increase over the weekend, and possibly next week if an upper low can develop in the region.
